In the early 1980s, Rich Gee found “penis envy” from an Amazon mushroom strain. Since then, this variety has evolved significantly, developing many isolation-specific traits. The Homestead PE, or Melmac, is a classic version of some of the original findings. It typically produces very large fruits, has prevalent fruiting, and often exhibits a distinctive greenish hue.

Over the past 40 years, since Rich Gee found the original mutations, penis envy has become the ultimate strain for isolators, building on his work. Interestingly, the term “Melmac” might remind some of the fictional home planet of the character ALF (Alien Life Form) from the American sitcom “ALF,” which aired in the late 1980s. ALF hailed from the quirky planet of Melmac in the Andromeda galaxy. It’s worth noting that the Homestead Book Company, which originally cultivated this strain, was involved in offering mushroom grower kits and publishing books on fungi but closed its doors after 45 years of business in 2017.
