Description
Melmac – Homestead Penis Envy
Melmac – Isolated Syringe . Mushroom Spore swabs are sterile cotton swabs that contain spores for microscopy use only. Spore prints are mushroom spores collected to foil and preserved for genetic collections. Isolation culture plates are mycelium isolated to monoculture for observational purposes.
Strain origin – Melmac – Isolated Syringe, known as “Homestead Penis Envy” from the homestead book company. They published many well known mycology books that are mainstream. Offering mushroom growers kits and publishing books on fungi, the homestead book company closed its doors after 45 years of business in 2017. In the early 1980’s Rich Gee found “penis envy” from an amazon mushroom strain. Since then, his variety has changed a lot with many isolation specific traits. The homestead PE or Melmac is a classic version of some of the original findings. Very large, prevalent fruiting, and usually containing a greenish hue. Over the past 40 years since Rich found the original mutations, penis envy has become the ultimate strain for isolators building off his work.
Gill formation – Gills typically are medium to large, wide range of formation. Likely to have available gills for spore production.
Microscopy features – Purplish brown spores. Spores measure 7 x 12 micrometers. This variety Melmak does not discharge spores.
